In this episode, the duo goes over their shared experience with 3304 Sports and some of the issues and obstacles involved with sports media currently. From sexism and racism to trying to stay authentic to yourself, while finding your niche in the industry.
Phoenix Brown is a Charleston, South Carolina native with a passion for sports. As a junior at her dream college, she faces the challenges of not only being a minority at a predominantly white institution but also the lack of diversity in sports media. She plans on pursuing a career as a basketball analyst or one of the new hosts on NBA Today.
Ryan Duvall is a junior at Virginia Tech, with a desire to break into the sports industry, whether that be media, or another facet. The Olney, Maryland native grew up playing basketball and golf, with goals of one day becoming a professional baseball scout and general manager. At Tech, he has worked for various media outlets, including covering the Virginia Tech Hokies baseball team for The Tech Lunch Pail.
Throughout the episode, the tandem discusses how they plan to face the inside and outside factors that involve being a part of the sports media industry, as well as what is next to come.
